Cleaning is the constant bane of our existence. Many of us start our day by cleaning our bodies and quickly making the bed prior to heading to the kitchen for breakfast or coffee. Humans are messy creatures. In no time we can cover a perfectly clean kitchen with crumbs and spills of sticky juice or creamer. The important thing to remember is to continually clean as you go in order to prevent spending an entire weekend de-greasing and de-grossing your home.

Clean and sanitary

Wiping up after most of your routines will help keep your place sparkling and hotel fresh. Sinks are the worst for backsplashes and water droplets. Smarmy faucets are never any good as they completely annihilate the germ killing plan and replace it with the germ festival plan. Ensure your faucets are not breeding grounds to your family’s next bout with the flu. Keep door handles, faucets, and toilet flushers sanitary.

Reduce, reuse, recycle

Sometimes our most beloved items become destroyed due to water damage or even chemical residue from harsh cleaning products. This is especially the case with wooden items such as tables. A simple solution to enable you to continue to adore your favorite items is to give them a fresh coat of paint. There are a variety of finishes and colors available in convenient spray cans including:

  • Hammered Finish
  • Textured, Gritty
  • Metallic
  • Flat Matte
  • High-Gloss

A great way to make a previously porous and stained item refreshed and clean is to give it a protective layer of paint. You can keep things natural with a clear coat or seek out your favorite color for inspiration. Sealing your precious wooden artifacts with paint can preserve them for years to come and allow you to keep on enjoying.

Worst household items to clean

Some areas in our homes are more difficult to access or seem to be dirtier than other places. The following list is comprised of the worst household areas to clean:

  • On top of kitchen cabinets, particularly near the vent over the oven
  • Behind and around the toilet
  • Kitty litter box
  • Removing rust from sinks or bathtub
  • Under the kitchen sink or whichever cupboard your garbage can lives in
  • Kid’s bathroom

Eliminating the dusty perimeter

While the above could be the name of a poetry collection, it is actually a tip to help you keep your entire house clean. The dusty perimeter consists of the walkway outside of your door, your front or back porch or your deck. Washing and cleaning your floor is great, however, having a dirty immediate exterior will only cause you to truck all that dirt right back into your home. Have the kids sweep the walk and the deck. Alternatively, you can use your leaf blower to make quick work of eliminating the dusty perimeter.

It’s never too early to get kids cleaning

Most people who loathe cleaning hate it because they are doing it by themselves. Teach the kids from their toddler years that cleaning can be fun. Make a game out of who can pick things up the fastest. Turn some tunes on to get everyone motivated. Keep things fun and stress-free. As the kids grow up, incorporate certain items into their chores. Earning their allowance this way can be a great way to instill responsibility and teach the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
